The sun was out, the weather was warm, the new Junortoun playground received a good workout and the verdict was overwhelming… “We love it!”
Sunday saw a community picnic to celebrate the opening of Junortoun’s first playground located on Inverness Drive in McIvor Forest Estate. Local residents and others from across Junortoun can to meet each other and to get a first hand look at the fantastic new playground.
Notable guests included Cr Rod Campbell and his dedicated wife Alison and also Gary Lantzsch the landscape architect with the City of Greater Bendigo who had responsibility for designing and installing the play space. Cr Campbell took the opportunity to meet with local residents, discuss issues of concern and enjoy the community spirit of the day. While Gary was there, with his children, to see the way the children engaged with the equipment and environment. It is natural for someone who has worked hard on a project to be proud of the outcome when it is delivered but it was plain from speaking with Gary that the reception from the children not only met, but surpassed his hopes. The playground is a hit with our children in so so many ways.
Meanwhile the children of the area climbed, explored, slid, jumped, swung, glided, see-sawed and played with an excitement that was obvious. Locals had been waiting for this day for a long time and the children weren’t going to be denied their opportunity to take it all in. Already some wonderful new friendships are being formed as the children of the surrounding streets now have a focal point to meet and play.
The Junortoun Community Action Group extends its sincere appreciation to the City of Greater Bendigo and to all who have argued for and supported the installation of this playground. We are certain that it will be well utilised.
